How we price jobs
We understand that every property is a little different. Factors such as surface size, material type, accessibility, and the level of cleaning required can all affect the time and resources needed to complete a job properly. For that reason, our pricing is based on a combination of surface measurements and the expected scope of work. You can find more details on how we price jobs on our page here.
How to help prepare for our arrival
-

-
Move or remove any items from your exterior of the house you feel is appropriate whether for the safety of our team or safety of your items. We take every precaution to ensure nothing gets damaged and frequently move things out of the way before cleaning to ensure they don't get damaged. Usually it is better for the homeowner to move these so you ensure your items are safe and secure. If you need help moving some items we are glad to help.

To ensure safety of all, please keep all pets with you or in a safe designated area during our visit. In some instances we use a chemical application that once rinsed is not harmful but during application we do not want pets to be exposed.
Problems to be aware of
Artillery Fungus
You may see these tiny specks of black that appear on your siding, particularly vinyl. These are almost impossible to remove. Often mistaken for insect feces they are actually spore masses expelled from the fruiting bodies of fungus known as sphaerobolus stellatus.
Sphaerobolus stellatus, commonly called artillery fungus or shotgun fungus, is a wood-decaying fungus that becomes a problem around homes because it launches sticky black spores onto nearby surfaces. These spores can land on siding, fences, cars, windows, and outdoor furniture and are extremely difficult to remove.
Why It’s Called “Artillery” Fungus
The fungus forms tiny cup-shaped fruiting bodies in mulch or decaying wood. When conditions are right, they shoot a spore mass into the air, sometimes up to 20 feet away. The spores are sticky and attach firmly to surfaces, which is why they often show up as tiny black tar-like dots on siding or fences.
Where It Comes From
Artillery fungus thrives in environments with: hardwood mulch, cool, moist conditions, shaded landscaping beds, decaying organic matter. It is most common in spring and fall when temperatures are moderate and moisture is high.
Why It’s a Problem for Homeowners
The spores harden quickly and can become very stubborn stains. Once attached, they may require: physical scraping, some homeowners have success with using a magic eraser or other methods. Standard house washing often won’t fully remove artillery fungus spores, especially after they have cured in the sun.
Prevention
The best way to prevent artillery fungus is landscape management, including:
-
Replacing hardwood mulch with pine bark or cedar mulch
-
Keeping mulch beds drier and thinner
-
Avoiding mulch directly against siding
-
Turning or refreshing mulch periodically
Cleaning Considerations
Because the spores bond tightly to surfaces, removal can be labor intensive and may not always result in complete removal, especially if the spores have been present for a long time. For this reason, many exterior cleaning companies treat artillery fungus as a specialty stain removal service rather than standard washing.

Oxidation
Over time, exterior materials such as aluminum gutters, painted trim, and certain siding surfaces naturally develop oxidation as they are exposed to sun, rain, and seasonal weather changes. Oxidation appears as a dull, chalky, or gray film on the surface and is a normal part of the aging process for many exterior materials.
While our cleaning process removes dirt, algae, and organic buildup, standard exterior washing does not always remove oxidation. In some cases, oxidation may remain visible after cleaning because it is embedded within the surface itself rather than sitting on top of it.
Specialized restoration methods and additional hand treatment may improve heavily oxidized surfaces, but complete restoration cannot always be guaranteed.

Runoff
During the cleaning process, a small amount of water may occasionally work its way behind siding or trim. This water can later drain back out through seams or weep holes after the cleaning has been completed. When this occurs, the draining water may carry small amounts of dust or debris with it, which can leave temporary streaks or marks on the siding. This is a normal occurrence and does not indicate a problem with the cleaning process as they may show hours or days after we've already left.
In most cases, these marks can be easily rinsed away with a light spray from a garden hose once the area has fully dried.
As always feel free to give us a call if yo have any questions or comments.
